Winter's Lament
Winter hangs in the air now,
The sky takes on a weathered
Darkened countenance.

Daylight struggles futilely
To hold its place just a little longer,
Knowing its efforts however valiant
Will be in vain,
The last of the leaves fall from their homes
Blowing around in a frenzy,
Seeking a final refuge.

The gray clouds pass over head
Just a little more quickly now,
Heralding colder whiter days yet to come.
Windows sing more boisterously
Desperately and vainly
Attempting to hold the barrier
Of in and out in place.

The battle line drawn again
Like so many times before,
So many times yet to come.

Looking into your eyes,
Did it seem just a little less bright?
Do not let the cold of the season
Reach too deeply,
Or bring night to your heart.
A darkening sky.

Let it not bring pain to that
Cherished hall once known.
Look rather into the purity
Of each new snowflake,
It's virginal splendor
Unspoiled by the cold air,
Mother of it's soul.

See the joy left in each moment,
For each memory yet to come
Is like that snowflake.
It holds its uniqueness
Close to its heart,
Knowing that it will never again
Be found,

Once created these moments
Will forever be,
Held warmly in the heart and soul
Of those whose love spans the seasons,
Chasing time from its resting place
To bring light to those
Who will hold it to heart.
